Internationale Reptilien- Amphibienbörse

Dear all,

We are pleased to inform you about a number of positive changes in the policy making relating to the International Reptile and Amphibian Fair that takes place twice per year in the Massinkhal in Nijmegen.

Of course all animal lovers find it important to give their animals as good a quality of life as possible. This is also true for animals that are not our own. After discussions with various organizations and clubs/societies, we have decided to implemenmt a few changes to our fair. It will remain the same pleasant fair but with a few important and especially animal-friendly improvements that will also improve the hobby generally.

We will pay more attention to education and conservation within our specialist hobby ranch. Education and comparing experiences can help the (new) hobbist give their animals a better life. We want to do this by giving interesting lectures during the fair. These will be given by experienced professionals and people who have made their careers working with reptiles and amphibians. Lectures and conservation will be brought together in the future so that each day of the Nijmegen fair can be organized with a special animal theme.

As organisers, we want to make a donation an international conservation project for reptiles and amphibians from each fair. We will do this in co-operation with the foundation Herpetofauna, which shall take care of the further use of the donation.

Another new initative to generate more attention and resources for conservation projects is the “Conservation Stand”. This is a new stand specially dedicated to the sale of donated terrarium-related articles. The money raised will go to conservation related-actvities. Collecting the donated material for the stand ahead of the fair will be taken care of by our workers. We expect of course the support of the participating stand holders in achieving our goal.

Start with yourself is always good advice. To follow this, we are trying to achieve a better, safer and above all animal friendlier fair. To achieve this, we will be giving extra attention to a number of points. The organizers will be checking things like the quality and suitability of the containers the animals are in (consider the size), presence of food/water and heating, general health checks and control of legality and presence of the required CITES documents. In this way, together we can ensure that the animals, where the whole fair is based on, are presented in the best possible manner.

We have animal welfare high in our priorities. With these improvements we want to be the forerunner in the area of animal welfare and we need your support to achieve this successfully together.
